Summertime - Vacation Time! |
|
It's summertime again, and that means that Strafford residents are on the move. Some of our residents are coming back for the summer, and many are heading out to destinations unknown. If you are one of those leaving for the summer, consider signing up for the Strafford Police Department's House and Property Check program. Once you have filled out the form and returned it to the PD, the duty officers will include your home or property on their daily patrols. Please click here for a printable form. The Strafford Police Department will be hosting a Citizens Firearms Class in August. This one-day class will feature a four-hour classroom segment explaining all NH firearms laws, state self defense laws, and safety in handling and storing firearms. Following the classroom portion, we will head out to the range and have a demonstration of law enforcement training and qualifications. The students will also get an opportunity to shoot a verity themselves.
You do not have to be a gun owner or even wish to be a gun owner to attend. The Citizens Firearms Class is open to anyone 18 and older, and is free of charge.
There are currently several residents who have expressed an interest in this class. For more details on pistol permits or the Citizen Firearms Class, please call Chief Young or Sgt. Richard at 664-7462 or e-mail us at

Since the November elections, the police department has seen a large increase in requests for pistol permits. While I am not going to get into the politics of it all, the police departments would like to encourage the citizens of Strafford to exercise their Second Amendment rights to obtain a New Hampshire pistol permit, or concealed weapons permit.
Anyone 18 and older and who hasn't been convicted of a felony or certain domestic violence offenses is eligible to obtain a permit.
A pistol permit allows a person to carry or transport a weapon legally in the State. The process is very simple. Fill out a permit application, which can be picked up here at the police department, drop it off, and within three to five days your permit will be ready. We can only issue permits to Strafford residents. The cost is $10.00 for a four-year permit.
